A Good Credit Score can Help You Obtain your Florida Contractor License

The requirements to earn your Florida Contractor License include several steps, including passing the exam and proving your years of experience in your industry. However, the requirement that surprises most general contractor hopefuls tends to be the financial responsibility portion of the application.

In order to obtain your Florida contractor license, you must prove that you are a financially responsible individual. There are several factors that must be met to prove your financial stability, including providing your Florida Contractor Credit Reports. Here is the full list of requirements to prove your financial responsibility, based on the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation :

  • There are no unsatisfied liens against the applicant or the company he or she intends to qualify
  • There are no unsatisfied judgments against the applicant or the company he or she intends to qualify
  • Applicant has a 660 FICO derived credit score or higher, or submits a licensing bond or irrevocable letter of credit
  • The licensing bond or letter of credit shall be maintained until the applicant has achieved a FICO credit score of 660 or higher

 

If you do not have a Florida Contractor Credit Report showing a FICO score of 660 or higher, there are some ways to still obtain your contractor license.
